So far, this has opened me up to a lot of scamming, and I'm being charged the chargeback fees once a bank fraud claim is issued. So Shopify is making $0.35 on every $1 donation, the donation is not being caught by Shopify fraud detection and instead automatically fulfilled, the real person disputes and I'm charged $16. My store will go broke very quickly at this rate.
Thank you for sharing this — we take fraud concerns seriously and understand how frustrating chargebacks are.
Card testing fraud is unfortunately a growing issue across all Shopify stores, not just those with donations. Fraudsters use small transactions to validate stolen card numbers, and because donations are typically low-value, they can slip past Shopify's built-in fraud filters.
We'd love to help you get this under control. A few things that can help immediately:
• Setting a minimum donation amount to make card testing less attractive
• Enabling Shopify's bot protection on your storefront
• Reviewing your payment capture settings
We've reached out to you directly with more detailed steps. We're committed to helping you resolve this — please don't hesitate to reply.
— Ben, Founder of DonateMate
we are having fruadelent donations, daily.
Thank you for reaching out — we're sorry to hear you're dealing with fraudulent donations. That's incredibly frustrating.
We've looked into this and it appears these donations are being added via direct cart access (Shopify's cart API), not through the DonateMate widget. Unfortunately, this is a broader Shopify storefront issue where bots can add any product — including donation products — directly to the cart, bypassing all on-page widgets.
If you'd like more assistance you can reach out to me directly at support@donatemate.app or you can contact Shopify Support.
DonateMate has made it easy for us to partner with local nonprofits to support our community. The app is easy to install and use, and the developers are responsive when you need help.
Thanks so much for the kind words! Love hearing that DonateMate is helping you support local nonprofits — that's exactly what we built it for. Always here if you need anything 🙌
This app allowed us to implement a register roundup program at our point of sale & online. The developer was very responsive in helping us get up and running, and responded to our requests for assistance always within 24 hours. We are so happy we found this app!
After searching for months for a donation app that would fit out needs, I came across DonateMate. It was very easy to install and integrate on our POS, but the best part was how user friendly it was on the POS for my staff to use. We are a museum and our staff is not the most computer savvy, so finding something that was easy and stress free for them to use was amazing. Thanks, Ben, for a great and thoughtful product.
Great app! We needed something quick and easy to set up with donations for our new website and this was easy to set up and get going. We needed some help with some options and styling, Ben reached out and got things going quickly and the app works great for us! The price is right for a new non profit as well.
Thanks for the lovely review, it was a pleasure working with you on your new project! -Ben
Right from the start before we even downloaded the app Ben has been so extremely helpful with all of our questions and dev needs. He was able to set the app up for us in our website exactly as we needed it and was so responsive every step of the way. The app is now doing exactly as we needed (roundup donations at checkout) and we couldn't be happier. Would highly recommend!
Thanks for the review. It's been a fantastic experience working with you to build out this new feature!
We had some issues with the POS button, but Ben was patient and helped us to find the setting we needed to update. Everything is working smoothly now.
The ability to ask for Donations on the cart page has increased our donations substantially. I like it better that a popup, less obtrusive for the customer. Visible, but not annoying. We don't use the post-purchase feature because all our customers must go through the cart page.
We processed over $170,000 via the Donate app...seamless. Good to do business with them! thanks Frances
I can only recommend this app. It looks nice, professional, tidy and the customer service is out of this world! Am so happy I chose to work with this app. Ben is an amazing developer, responsive and committed to his work. Thank you for such a nice experience! :)
