langify ‑ translate your store

I've used Langify on 3 Shopify projects so far. It is an absolute must-have if you want to run a multi-language store since Shopify isn't built for that.

While the app itself is sometimes hard to use, especially if you have a lot of data, the developper makes up for it with very well made guides and an incredible support team. Most requests are answered within the hour and the team is always ready to help you edit your theme if needed.

One of the solution we found to manage the product data was to install the Metafield2 app. It integrates well with Langify product data and lets you export and import the same metafields that are used in Langify. So you get a nice data sheet to work with.

It's with deep sadness that I write this review having been a customer for many years.
Please don't install this app until the developer fixes this one major issue. You can not filter archived or draft products. Instead, you have to pay for words you are not going to use costing you $10,000's in our case.

Their non-existent timeline to fix this is infuriating and shows how little they care for their customers.

AVOID THIS APP.

"Unfortunately, I'm sorry to say this is not possible at the moment because a feature to filter products (and include/exclude them from the translations) according to their status is not currently available. Our developers are aware of this and they are already considering including this feature in a future update, but we don't have any approx release date for this at the moment."

If I could have rated this app with 6 stars, I would have done it. The app is absolutely perfect, so simple to use and logically laid out. And the support from these guys is nothing short of outstanding. I have never had customer support like it, they went above and beyond the call of duty, even while I was on the 7-day trial version and hadn't paid them a cent. Francesco, Wolf, Vera & Sabrina - these guys have built something every one selling in multinational and multilingual markets should have on their site. They even customised my language switcher for me and made some code changes that made my site look great. No wonder they have so many good reviews, when I read them before deciding on Langify, I was hoping they were genuine and I can testify that they are. Buy this app, you won't regret it, it's worth every last cent.

I was unhappy with langify three years ago and then uninstalled it within the trial period. This time we're really in need of a second language to serve our growing base of Chinese customers, so I did some in deep research to find the app to fit our need. Quite a bit of languages apps that are simply use Google Translator to do the job, but langify works differently comparing to others. Since the Chinese language is more complicated than other languages and GT never done a good job. So, I decided to give a second try to langify. Despite that langify is not perfect, but the customer team, especially Vera, is there to fix all your issue. I did a lot of research in all the options available regarding translation and this seemed the one which people were talking best things about. Indeed, the app installs smoothly and the whole translation process is straightforward for text and for images in case you have to translate any visual content. The rest of the reviews here mentioned a lot about the good support and it wasn't any different with me. Johannes support is top notch, he not only provided the help we needed but also gave some advice outside what he was supposed to. On top of that, the speed of his support was highly above the average development support I had in many years working in the industry (agency and client side) which helped a lot due to a tight deadline we had to have the whole content translated. I really think it couldn't have been a better experience!!

Update: The support team reached out quickly and helped resolve the issue. They were very knowledgeable. I still think setup, onboarding process, and compatibility with shopify markets could be improved-no shop owner should have his store go down for a whole day as soon as an app is installed. But I do appreciate that they are able to fix issues quickly. Still need to push translations live before I can make a definitive conclusion about this app. __________________________

Made my site go down for a whole day. After I installed it, any link on my site directed to this subfolder with a 404 error: /eg-en/eg-en//eg-en/eg-en//eg-en/eg-en//eg-en/eg-en//eg-en/eg-en/ After I deleted the app, the problem went away. In addition, the app loads a bit slowly and certain editing certain categories such as metafields will freeze the app.

Now updating a previous comment from 2017. We are now 5 years later, they changed to langify V2 using Shopify API for a much better experience and I'm still VERY happy with it. All in all, the app does an excellent job translating your full store in different languages. The overall process is straightforward and very user (noob) friendly, and in 99% of the cases, you'll be able to translate any content of your store by yourself. But where langify shines the most, in my opinion, is with their support team. I had to sometimes struggle with some other app support teams not reading carefully or not really eager to solve a seamingly complex problem, but trust me when I tell you their staff is extremely efficient and dedicated! It's very simple : every time I requested help, they provided it to me in no time, providing very smart and useful fix to solve any issue I faced. They are basically all good, but with people like Vera or Sabrina, you are definitely in good hands. I can't thank them enough for all the help.

By today I can say it fully deserves for 5 stars - this app is truly good companion.

a lot of problems when I change or add a page, especially changes to navigation bar. your app starts now mixing everything up - glad it happened in trial period and once I haven't add a lot of content as it is time wasting ! would not recommend at all

After testing other apps available for my shopify store, I must say I'm coming back to Langify... It needs a lot of work to input everything but as they describing it is much more healthy for my store rather than other rubbish translators with very poor or even lying translation...

Langify deserves attention, for sure... At the moment I believe I will stay with them for much longer. 4 stars not 5 as there is some work needed before it will be fully working

This app is fairly easy to set up and use. The v2 update really improved the UI. It's not perfect, but of all the language translation options we've looked into, this has been the most efficient. If you're looking for a quick machine translation, this probably isn't the one, but if you want more nuanced control, this is a good place to start. Products, collections, themes, metafields, pages, articles, blogs, notifications, shop code, and even custom translations for special cases. Also, support has been helpful. We've had a few instances when something changed in our theme and the translations didn't work properly or the switcher didn't play nicely with the new theme code, and support was always able to fix it for us. My one major disappointment (for anyone planning to use third-party translation platforms, such as Crowdin): the Langify import/export seems to be using the actual string as the string identifier, so importing your translated strings only seems to work if the string has remained unchanged in Shopify. Since we're continually changing strings, this makes the import feature mostly useless for us, but considering the other features of this app, it seems worth the trade-off. (BTW, there are legitimate reasons for doing things this way; it's just an inconvenience for us.)

This app seems to be one of the best available in Shopify App store right now BUT it is far from perfect.
Main disadvantages of it:
- It not possible to add translations in bulk. You need to go to the product one-by-one. There is a possibility of import/export PO file but unfortunately, it is not helpful at all. Much better would the csv file similar to basic Shopify cvs export files where you can see info split in columns.
- It is impossible to detect the mistake in translations until you go to the product and see it. Here the csv would be a perfect variant when you could check translations on the product level and fix them in bulk. Would give much more visibility.
To be more specific. There was a bug in the app. If you change the order of product variant options in Shopify admin the translations of variant option values get messed up. You won‘t know it until you go to Langify to check something else and see this issue. Doesn‘t seem to be reliable.
- You can "translate" product pictures BUT it is so hacky way that if your product picture URL gets changed for any reason your setup will be lost and you won‘t even notice it before you go and check it on the product level.
- Formating of products and page translations sometimes messes up. You need to open the HTML code and fix it from there because fixes in the editor don‘t really work well.
E.g. If you paste the text from any other place the text background can get some color and you only can fix it via the code section. I really hope that Langify team reads comments and is willing to grow and improve. All stated above is a big pain for all merchants who have a big amount(20+) of products in the shop.
