We’re really sorry to hear about the issues you experienced - that’s definitely not the kind of experience we want for our merchants 🙏
The behavior you mentioned comes from our older mode, which worked this way only because, at the time, Shopify didn’t provide any native way for apps to add paid product options to checkout. Fortunately, this is no longer needed.
We’ve recently introduced a new option - CTA Mode (powered by Shopify native Cart Transform API) - which works completely differently and avoids creating any cloned products or extra variants.
More benefits of the new CTA mode:
- Full support for Shopify discount codes, automatic promotions and markets
- Faster storefront performance and cleaner order data
- Better compatibility with 3rd-party apps
